A brief update on an increasingly brief internet
As the internet crumbles around him, one man takes a bold step into the future by... sending e-mails.
Hi, I’m looking for a stable internet platform. Does anyone have one of those? The less hate-speech, the better.
As I tweeted, skyeeted, threaded, and told the squirrels in my backyard: I am no longer with Chiefs On SI. There’s a short version, a long version, and a really long version.
The short version is that I didn’t expect the move, but in the midst of SI/On SI’s evolution, I can’t be entirely surprised. The longer versions are a bit less generous. I’ll stick with the short one for now.
I am unendingly grateful and maybe literally indebted to Jordan Foote, who is now the best free-agent Chiefs writer on the market. (Chiefs, NFL, NBA, MLB — someone should pay this man to write about sports until his fingers bleed.) I also couldn’t have done it without Tucker Franklin, who took on the deputy editor role before we had any idea how to run a website. (Tucker is already pretty busy, but you should buy him a beer or something.) Mark Van Sickle and Zack Eisen were fabulous to work with until the bitter end, as were many other writers who contributed over the years.
I came dangerously close to rambling on about turning 30, almost dying a few years ago, creativity and what’s next, but I promised brevity for both of our sakes.
TL;DR: No more writing on Chiefs On SI. None of this impacts Only Weird Games. I’ll keep appearing on 96.5 The Fan throughout the remainder of the Chiefs season. Then, we’ll see! I have some long-term ideas that excite me, and a short-term part-time break is going to help uncover them.
In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy my first time watching the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on a night with no postgame responsibilities. Maybe I’ll see you at the parade.
Please lmk where I can be a paid Subscriber to ANYTHING ANYWHERE you write, or if you end up being a stand-up comic somewhere, I’d even catch a quick flight to Kansas City to see your act lol
Darn, as always you’ve done great work in the platforms you contribute to. In my mind I’m hoping your name is in the conversation for filling an opening position of a certain long tenured Chiefs beat writer. Good luck in your endeavors whatever they may be, and I’ll continue listening!
