Yeah, but... what if they win?
The Chiefs lost to the Chargers, and the Eagles are better than the Chargers. Why even play the game?
The Kansas City Chiefs are home underdogs against the Philadelphia Eagles, which is weird… but it feels a bit early for a eulogy.
Today’s Red Friday edition of Everything Else takes on some strangely off-base analysis and asks a brave question: “What if the Chiefs beat the Eagles?”
I’m holding my ground on my long-term view of this Chiefs season. If they’re 3-3 when Rashee Rice returns, I’m content. If they’re 4-5 after nine games, the season starts after the bye. With that said, it’s a bit surprising to see one-point home-dogs be so universally buried in Week 2.
You’ll hear Rob Gronkowski’s questionable addition to the discourse in today’s show, but the truth is that if — if! — the Chiefs win on Sunday, the overreaction pendulum will break the sound barrier as “Is the dynasty over?” whips back to “Who can stop the Chiefs?”
From Seth Keysor’s Tyquan Thornton film review that has me believing in Thornton’s role in the offense to Craig Stout’s defensive breakdown on the KC Laboratory to Matty Lane’s pushback to Dan Orlovsky’s bizarre takeaway from Week 1, there are plenty of intellectually honest evaluations of where the Chiefs go from here. You just have to know where to look.
Everything Else: Nintendo Direct(ly from my wallet)
Today’s Nintendo Direct was fun, but I will not be satiated until I have a new Animal Crossing game. (It could be a while.) It’s interesting to see how many “Switch 2 Editions” and how much paid DLC we’re getting, including paid DLC for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which isn’t out yet!
Pokémon Pokopia will either take over my life or feel like a shallow knockoff of other similar games of the genre. I can’t tell if it’s going to be good, but I will be playing it while brave Real Gamers are playing Resident Evil: Requiem.
I’ve been waiting for the full release of Hades II before I return to the underworld, and we’ve almost made it! Hades is a remarkable game, and what I’ve seen and heard from the sequel makes me think we’re in safely in GOTY territory.

Oh, and the Chiefs have introduced the KC Wolfpack. I have big feelings.
